“A Cruel Angel’s Thesis” by Michael Hessel-Mial — a Macro Poetry Series

A CRUEL ANGEL’S THESIS

“…either I’m the one on the wrong planet
or I’ve got the wrong world
projected onto my screen,
pummeled into me.”

This macro series is a meditation on technological alienation in the voice of a young reactionary. Staging Neon Genesis Evangelion anime icon Shinji Ikari in the flatness of mediated images, the speaker flails against the surface of his surroundings, questioning the digital and emotional textures of his reality through the grim conclusions and dark humor he draws from his sudden and stilled existence in his world.
